East of the C-18 Canal, which covers nearly every neighborhood from PGA National and BallenIsles to Frenchman's Reserve, water comes from Seacoast's own wells. Its four surficial wellfields (Hood Road, North Palm Beach, Burma Road and Palm Beach Gardens) draw from 75 to 200 feet down, and six Floridan wells, three of them on the 40-acre Hood Road site, reach about 1,500 feet into brackish water. Nanofiltration softens and cleans the shallow water; low-pressure reverse osmosis desalts the brackish water. Seacoast doesn't add fluoride, and the 2025 report lists 35.5 ppm of sodium from 2023 sampling.

West of the canal, Avenir's water travels a different route. Under a bulk agreement, Seacoast buys treated water from Palm Beach County Water Utilities and delivers it through a western service area that isn't connected to the rest of Seacoast's pipes. The County treats its own wellwater with lime softening and ion exchange at some plants and membranes at others, and its 2025 report shows byproduct levels well within legal limits but higher than Seacoast's, along with detectable PFAS. The County also switches from chloramine to straight chlorine twice a year and flushes its lines, so a stronger chlorine smell for a few weeks is something Avenir residents may notice.

Not sure which side you're on? Your bill comes from Seacoast either way, so the canal is the simpler guide: if your community sits north of Northlake Boulevard and west of Bay Hill Drive, assume County water. We confirm it during the test, because the right answer for PFAS and byproducts depends on which plant treated your water.

Often not, and that's worth hearing before anyone quotes you. Nanofiltration was chosen to replace lime softening because it removes most of the minerals that cause scale, so many homes on Seacoast water test soft or only moderately hard. If your reading comes back low, a water softener adds salt, upkeep and cost without fixing anything you'd notice.

Readings do vary, though. Water sits in long runs of pipe out to the golf communities, older homes carry scale from years past, and County water in Avenir comes from a different treatment train. White crust on shower glass, a dishwasher that leaves film, or a water heater that rumbles are reasons to measure. A softener only deals with calcium and magnesium; it does nothing for chloramine, byproducts or PFAS, which is why carbon or RO is often the better first purchase here. If the number does justify one, we size it to your home rather than to a countywide figure, and we plumb it so the pool fill and irrigation lines stay on untreated water.

Gated and golf communities such as PGA National, BallenIsles, Old Palm, Mirasol and Frenchman's Reserve tend to have large homes with several bathrooms, so whole-house carbon has to be sized for flow, not just for the water itself. Many associations want to approve anything installed outside, so we usually place tanks in the garage or a utility room and bring the paperwork you need for the review.

Homes from the city's first two decades, built in the 1960s and 1970s, are where lead testing makes sense. Seacoast's supply isn't the concern; old solder joints and brass fixtures inside the house can be. We take a first-draw sample and send it to a certified lab at no charge, then suggest an under-sink RO or NSF-53 filter only if the result points that way.

Newer construction in Alton, Avenir and other recent developments avoids the lead question entirely. What matters there is the supply: Alton is on Seacoast water, while Avenir is on County water with higher byproducts, so whole-house carbon and kitchen RO move up the list in Avenir.

According to the City's 2026 water supply plan, 62 single-family homes on North Mary Circle, South Mary Circle and Dania Drive still use private wells, even though the City has installed water mains they can connect to. Nobody tests or treats a private well for you, and shallow wells in this part of Florida commonly bring up iron, hydrogen sulfide and tannins.

From there the recommendation is usually short. Many homes on Seacoast water need only carbon for chloramine and an RO at the kitchen. Avenir homes lean toward the same pair because of the County's byproduct and PFAS numbers. A softener joins only when the hardness reading earns it. Prices are the ones above, quoted after the test, and standard systems can usually go in the same day.
