Chloramine: Used throughout the PBCWUD distribution system. Persistent, corrosive to plumbing components, and the source of the chemical taste in tap water that most Boca Raton residents have simply learned to live with.
Standard carbon pitcher filters address taste and odor from free chlorine. They don't address chromium-6, chlorate, PFAS, or hardness. How a Reverse Osmosis System Works

A complete 4 or 5-stage system includes:
Stage 1 — Sediment pre-filter (5 micron): Removes particulate matter — sediment, rust, suspended solids. Protects the carbon filter and membrane from physical damage and premature fouling.
Stage 2 — Carbon block pre-filter: Removes chloramine before the water reaches the membrane. Improves taste and is particularly valuable for households using RO water for coffee, tea, and cooking. Brings TDS back up to 50–80 ppm with a controlled mineral profile.
The system connects under your kitchen sink to the cold water supply line. Purified water is stored in a pressurized holding tank (typically 3–4 gallons) and dispensed through a dedicated faucet installed at the sink. The system runs automatically — when the tank is drawn down, it refills. You turn on the RO faucet and get purified water. That's it.

Reverse Osmosis for a Boca Raton Home: What's Involved

Maintenance: What a Boca Raton RO System Needs

The Baby Formula Question
I want to address this directly because it comes up often and the answer matters.
The EPA and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that infant formula be prepared with water that meets or exceeds drinking water standards.
